Top website design trends for 2022

Things in technology change fast, and web design is definitely included in that list. Keeping your finger on the pulse when it comes to anything website-related is an absolute must, as new trends emerge every year. The last thing you want is for people to think your website looks outdated, which in turn can lose you conversions.

If you’re having a hard time trying to keep with all the latest trends and updates when it comes, worry not! That’s what we’re here for. Here’s a list of the upcoming website design trends for 2022 that are already taking off.

1. Show, don’t tell

Don’t get us wrong, great copy is priceless. But in 2022, a bigger emphasis will be put on background video and animations that tell your story. The ones that will take centre stage will be micro-animations: those subtle movements that get triggered by a scroll or hover over a particular part of the page. This will be particularly helpful if you’re in a business with complex processes that are hard to explain to customers. With simple animations, you can help them digest your story and what you do much more easily while keeping them engaged.

2. Scrolly-telling

Scrolling has become a valued technique for delivering information to users, so if you’re looking to build a future-proof website, this is something that needs to be carefully considered. Taking inspiration from social media, this twenty-first-century thumb motion is coming to web design. In simple terms, it can be referred to as narrative visualization: as users scroll through your page, animations and text are popping up to tell your story. Still confused? Check out Apple’s Airpod Pro website design, and you’ll know exactly what we’re referring to!

3. Colourful Minimalism

Minimalism is still in, but this time it’s accompanied by its long-lost sister: optimism. We’re talking about eye-catching bright backgrounds that are set to replace the muted neutrals that have been popping up everywhere the last few years. Bold colours such as yellow and orange will attract your users’ eyes and help make your information stand out.

4. Whitespace

White space refers to blank areas in between design elements. Whilst the name suggests otherwise, whitespace can actually be made of any colour. The correct use of white space in web design can increase readability by up to 20%, making a page feel more spacious and well-balanced. So if you’re trying to make your message heard (or seen), then simplify your copy and make it stand out with whitespace!

5. Human-like Chatbots

Well…technically chatbots don’t classify as web design, but they’re super important nonetheless! And if you haven’t done so already, you should get onto them. But be mindful, if you really want to make the most of this feature, you should humanize them as much as you can! We’re talking about adding a profile picture of an actual person and making the automation as human-like as possible. With the way technology is going (think artificial intelligence and machine learning that just keeps on getting more powerful), it won’t be long until they fully take over customer service.

And there you have it! A few website design trends that we’re really excited to embrace over the next few months. We’re not saying that you should embrace all of these on your website at the same time, but making use of one or two can set you apart from the rest. If you’re looking for a brand new website, or a simple refresh, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
