Which Instagram profile type should you choose?

Which Instagram profile type should you choose?

Whether you’re a small business, an influencer, or an e-commerce brand, Instagram will cater to you differently. Each Instagram profile type serves a different purpose, and you can choose between 3 of them.

If you’ve only recently decided to take your Instagram strategy seriously (welcome to the club!), then you will need to carefully consider which account type will work best for you or your business.

To help you choose which one is your perfect match, we’ve listed the features of each one of them.

Personal Account

Whilst we do not recommend using this one for your business, we thought we should delve into it a little bit. As the name suggests, this account type is geared towards personal use.

One of the main features of personal accounts is that you can set them on private.

So, the question begs: if I’m trying to grow my account, why would I ever benefit from a private account?

Well, you’d be surprised to know that some influencers have previously used this strategy to increase their follower count. If your account is private and one of your followers sends one of your posts to their friends, that person has to follow you in order to see it. This is particularly helpful if you share valuable content that people are prone to sharing in private messages. Large ‘meme’ accounts and up-and-coming influencers have been known to use this method to grow their Instagram account.

Creator Account

Creator accounts were introduced to Instagram for influencers. There are many similarities between business and creator accounts, but there are also major differences to be aware of.

One of the benefits of using a creator account is that you have access to unlimited music that you can use for reels and stories. Whilst this feature may seem mundane, it’s extremely helpful to grow your account.

Put simply, reels are Instagram’s version of Tik Tok. Being Instagram’s latest feature, reels are one of the best ways to gain organic reach on the platform. By having access to popular music, you can create a trending short video that will get your account in front of thousands of eyes.

On the other hand, a major disadvantage of creator accounts is that you cannot auto-publish content through Facebook’s creator studio or third-party publishing platforms. This can be a major drawback, especially if you’re looking to post frequently on the platform as it will make the process more time-consuming.

Business Account

With a business account, you have access to all the features that you may need to sell on the platform.

One of the main attributes of a business account is the ability to advertise on the platform. You’re able to set up, run and track advertising campaigns the same way you do through Facebook Ads.

As touched upon above, you are also able to auto-publish through a business profile, which will enable you to plan your strategy and save you time.

Additionally, a huge Business profile feature is the ability to tag products on posts, enabling users to buy directly on the platform. If you’re selling online, then this is a great way to monetize content and increase sales.

If you’re a brand that offers products or services, then we recommend setting up an Instagram Business Account. However, you should always assess the goals of your Instagram strategy so that you can choose the Instagram profile type that suits your needs the most.
